Domestic workers, or kasambahay, in Metro Manila will receive an P800 increase in their monthly minimum wage starting next month, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) announced.
Under Wage Order No. NCR-DW-06 approved by the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board–National Capital Region, the minimum monthly pay of domestic workers in the region will rise from P7,000 to P7,800.
The adjustment will take effect on Feb. 7, or 15 days after the publication of the wage order.
In an advisory issued Thursday, the NWPC said the increase covers general househelpers, whether stay-in or live-out, as well as nannies, cooks, gardeners, laundry workers, and others who regularly perform domestic work in one household on an occupational basis.
Excluded from the wage increase are service providers, family drivers, and individuals who perform domestic work only occasionally or sporadically and not on an occupational basis, the commission said.
The NWPC said the wage hike aims to help improve the living conditions of domestic workers amid the continued rise in the prices of basic goods and services.
The commission urged employers to comply with the new wage order to ensure fair and just compensation for domestic workers.
