DOJ: Arrest warrant out vs. Atong Ang, others

A Laguna court has issued an arrest warrant against gaming tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang in connection with the case of the missing sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts), the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Wednesday.

The Regional Trial Court Branch 26 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna issued the arrest warrant yesterday against Ang and other accused who were charged with kidnapping with homicide, as well as kidnapping with serious illegal detention.

The charges are not bailable, according to the document signed by RTC Branch 26 Presiding Judge Mary Jean Cajandab-Ong.

According to the Philippine National Police, “dedicated teams” are on their way to implement the warrant.

The warrant would be served at Ang’s identified locations, PNP Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said.

Meanwhile, DOJ spokesperson Attorney Polo Martinez explained that following the issuance, the prosecution shall forthwith move for the issuance of a Hold Departure Order with the court and ensure that all the accused stand trial.

Previously, an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order was issued notifying authorities of any attempt by any of the accused to exit the country.

The Manila Standard sought the comment of the camp of Ang but has yet to receive an official statement as of posting time.

Aside from Ang, the court also ordered the arrest of the following:

Rogelio Borican Jr., Jezrel Mahilum, Mark Carlo Zabala, Rodelo Anig-ig, Emman Falle, Julios Gumolon, Ronquillo Anding, Ryan Jay Orapa, Aaron Ezrah Cabillan, Mark Anthony Manrique, Anderson Abary, Michael Claveria, Edmon Muñoz, Farvy Dela Cruz, Renan Fulgencio, Alfredo Andes, and Joey Encarnacion.
