LTO removes fees for OFWs renewing driver’s licenses abroad

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will no longer have to pay up to P6,000 for medical and courier services to renew their driver’s licenses through Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Department of Migrant Workers caravans abroad, the Land Transportation Office announced Wednesday.

Under a new program, these fees have been completely eliminated, according to LTO chief Markus Lacanilao.

Lacanilao said the new memorandum establishes a special program for OFWs in recognition of their contributions and sacrifices for their families and the country.

“Our OFWs continue to sacrifice, far from their families and loved ones, for the good of the nation. This program is a concrete way for the government to show that they are valued and not forgotten, while also facilitating the renewal of their driver’s licenses,” he said.

The initiative aims to reduce costs and inconvenience for OFWs, Lacanilao added.

The LTO said OFWs no longer need to return to the Philippines to renew their licenses and may avail of the service through any OWWA and DMW caravan overseas.
