Malacañang on Friday stressed that due process will govern any action taken in the investigation of a military officer relieved from his post over an alleged withdrawal of support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a message to Palace reporters, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President is closely monitoring the situation but will not act outside legal procedures, emphasizing that accountability must be anchored on evidence.
“The President is listening and closely monitoring the situation. Whoever may be held accountable, evidence must be used. Due process will be observed, and whatever the law provides will be implemented,” Castro said in mixed Filipino and English.
Her statement came after the Philippine Army relieved Col. Audie Mongao and placed him under awaiting-orders status following an alleged social media post that was interpreted as a withdrawal of support for the President.
The Army stated that the move was intended to facilitate a thorough and impartial investigation.
