The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Friday announced it is taking into custody the seized luxury vehicles reportedly owned by former Ako Bicol party-list representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co.
The ICI earlier received information regarding 15 vehicles allegedly linked to Co, whose plate numbers it was able to obtain and verify.
The Bureau of Customs later found out that nine of the 15 vehicles had incomplete importation documents and unpaid duties and taxes.
“This verified information was subsequently relayed to the Land Transportation Office for ownership verification and to the Bureau of Customs to determine whether the vehicles had complete importation documents and payments of duties and taxes,” the ICI said in a statement.
Customs operatives, in coordination with the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, earlier seized eight imported vehicles at the Fort Victoria Condominium in Taguig.
The issuance of search warrants and the seizure of these vehicles were conducted following information received and verified by the ICI concerning vehicles allegedly owned by Co, which were found to be registered under entities with ties to the former lawmaker.
“The ICI remains dedicated to verifying and acting upon the information it receives and encourages the submission to the Commission of credible information relevant to its ongoing investigation of anomalous flood control and infrastructure projects,” the ICI said.
