DFA aiding teen injured in deadly Crans-Montana fire

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Berne, Switzerland, is facilitating medical assistance for a 16-year-old Filipino who was injured in the deadly New Year’s Day fire in Crans-Montana.

In a statement Friday, the DFA identified the victim as Kean Kaisser Talingdan, who sustained severe burns in the incident.

“Upon receipt of a request for assistance, the Philippine Embassy in Berne on the same day coordinated with Swiss authorities to verify the minor’s condition and whereabouts and maintained communication with his mother,” the agency said.

The DFA also reported that it has collaborated with the Philippine Consulate General in Milan to ensure continuous consular assistance following Talingdan’s medical transfer to Italy, where he is currently receiving treatment.

“As part of the Government’s efforts to help distressed Filipinos abroad, the DFA is facilitating medical assistance from the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Fund to help address the minor’s medical needs,” the DFA added.

The department pledged to remain ready to extend additional assistance as necessary.

On January 1, sparklers on Champagne bottles ignited a fire in a bar at an Alpine ski resort, resulting in the deaths of 40 people and injuries to more than 100.
