DAR condones P125-m agrarian debts in Region 3

THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has condoned nearly P125 million in agrarian overdue debts and distributed over 5,000 land titles to thousands of agrarian beneficiaries in Central Luzon (Region 3).

Eric Francis Luna, DAR Central Luzon officer in charge, said the accelerated debt condonation and land title distribution reflected the firm directive of the Marcos administration through Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III to fast track agrarian reform and deliver “immediate and tangible benefits” to the farmers.

Estrella stressed that to free the agrarian reform beneficiaries from debt while granting secure land tenure, they must be  empowered to invest more confidently in their farms, raise productivity, and finally enjoy the full rewards of their labor.

Various DAR provincial offices implemented the initiative directly benefiting over 3,000 farmers who were freed from long-standing land amortization debts.

DAR said with the farmers’ obligations erased, they could redirect limited resources toward improving farm productivity, increasing household income, and securing their families’ future.

The distribution included close to 500 electronic titles under the Support to Parcelization of Lands for Individual Titling project, over 400 regular land titles and 4,200 certificates of condonation to benefit more than 4,000 beneficiaries in Central Luzon.

The debt write off was  being implemented under Republic Act No. 11953. or the New Agrarian Emancipation Act signed on July 7, 2023.
