President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. assured continuity in leadership and purpose within the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as newly promoted generals and flag officers were formally recognized.
Speaking at the promotion ceremony in Malacañang on Wednesday, President Marcos congratulated the newly elevated officers, including a lone commissioned graduate of a Foreign Pre-Commissioned Training Institution.
“Your higher rank demands sharper judgment and steadier leadership, especially in an era of complex threats, rising geopolitical tensions, and heightened security of–security concerns for our country,” President Marcos said.
“The true measure of leadership lies in conduct and example, not rank,” he added.
President Marcos noted that the AFP remained focused on readiness and modernization in 2025, advancing capabilities that support both national defense and humanitarian missions.
“You have remained a dependable shield of our communities by protecting our seas, providing assistance during calamities, and sustaining peace-building effort,” he said.
Internationally, he said the AFP strengthened the country’s credibility through joint exercises and interoperability initiatives with defense partners.
Mr. Marcos also pointed to the signing of the 2026 national budget as a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to the welfare of military and uniformed personnel.
“With the signing of the 2026 National Budget, I reiterate the government’s commitment to uphold the welfare of the women and men who protect our nation,” President Marcos said.
The ceremony was attended by National Defense Undersecretary Irineo Espino, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., major service commanders, government officials and guests.
