PNP inspects Sarah Discaya’s cell in Cebu

Chief of the Police Regional Office–Central Visayas (PRO-7), Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan led an inspection of the Lapu-Lapu City jail where contractor Sarah Discaya is currently detained.

In an interview on Tuesday, December 23, Maranan stated that the inspection was ordered by the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Jonvic Remulla.

Maranan confirmed that he personally observed Discaya, along with nine others involved in the scandal, in both the female and male dormitories, emphasizing that no special treatment was provided to them.

Reports from physicians indicate that the detainees do not have any illnesses aside from their pre-existing conditions.

For its part, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology stated that it ensured the facility is heavily guarded.

“We are doing our best, and this facility can secure our high-profile PDLs. We have additional forces and are coordinating with the regional police for perimeter security,” Lapu-Lapu City Jail Female Dormitory Warden, Chief Inspector Ivy Christine Maningos said.

To recall, on December 19, Discaya and her co-accused arrived separately in Cebu after warrants for their arrest were issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 27 for their involvement in fraudulent flood control projects in Davao Occidental.
