Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Friday said young engineers will play a crucial role in restoring public trust in the agency, even as it ramps up efforts to recruit new civil engineering graduates nationwide.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the DPWH to bring in fresh talents into the department to improve infrastructure delivery across the country.
During a visit to Davao City with the President, Dizon met newly licensed civil engineer Dave Rusty Recososa, son jeepney driver Edwin Recososa, who went viral for offering free rides after his son passed the Civil Engineering board examinations.
Dizon encouraged Dave to join the ongoing “transformation” within the DPWH after he was offered a civil engineer post at the agency’s Davao regional office.
Recososa is among those being hired to fill more than 2,000 DPWH vacancies across the country.
“It’s good that you’re joining because we have a lot to do next year. We need fresh blood, new people,” Dizon told the young engineer. He also praised Recososa’s father for his sacrifices as a jeepney driver to support his son through school.
The DPWH aims to strengthen its workforce as it accelerates key infrastructure projects in 2025.
