LCT vessel runs aground in Batangas due to ‘Uwan’

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed that the LCT Felicity 8, a landing craft owned by Silver Sand Shipping Corp., ran aground off Barangay Wawa Ibaba in Lemery, Batangas, during Super Typhoon Uwan.

The ship initially sought shelter in Pagapas Bay, Calatagan, but was swept into shallow waters by strong winds and waves. Authorities found the vessel stable, with no major damage or oil spill reported. All crew members are safe.

The PCG directed the ship’s owner to send a tugboat to move the vessel to safety while coordinating with local officials for recovery.

A marine casualty investigation is underway to determine the cause of the grounding and compliance with safety rules.

The PCG said over 1,000 passengers remain stranded in ports across the country until storm warnings are lifted.
