PNP eyes drones, data systems to boost response

The Philippine National Police (PNP), led by acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., is embracing drones, data analytics, and interconnected systems to improve public safety and emergency response.

Nartatez said drones will enhance real-time monitoring during disasters, traffic incidents, and large public events, giving ground commanders better situational awareness. He added that predictive analytics will allow the police to shift from reactive to proactive crime prevention by identifying potential trouble spots in advance.

The initiative complements the Unified 911 Emergency Hotline System launched in Central Visayas, which integrates police, fire, and medical response operations. Nartatez said the goal is full integration of the PNP’s surveillance, analytics, and communication systems for faster and smarter crisis response.
