The United Arab Emirates, through the UAE Aid Agency, has provided material assistance to approximately 40,000 families affected by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu on September 30.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the UAE Embassy in Manila stated that the delivery of the unspecified aid was overseen by the embassy in coordination with relevant local entities and authorities.
“The UAE’s response reflects the country’s humanitarian efforts and its global commitment towards communities impacted by natural disasters and crises. It also underscores the UAE’s dedication to alleviating humanitarian suffering, accelerating early recovery, and reinforcing stability,” the statement read.
UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi, also emphasized that the aid reflects the directives of the UAE’s leadership and demonstrates his government’s commitment to supporting countries in crisis worldwide.
“The dispatch of aid is in response to the earthquake that struck Cebu Island in central Philippines, which resulted in dozens of casualties and significant damage to property, and displaced hundreds of residents who were forced to seek refuge in temporary shelters,” the statement added.
Earlier, Spain, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and Singapore also sent their assistance to the Cebu quake victims.
