PH, Japan underscore stronger defense ties

THE Philippines and Japan have underscored stronger defense relations during a bilateral ministerial meeting on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for policy Ma. Hellen De La Vega, who represented the Philippines in the Vice Ministerial Strategic Dialogue, cited the strong foundation established between the two nations under the Marcos administration. De La Vega and Japanese Foreign Affairs Senior Deputy Minister Namazu Hiroyuki presided at the talks.

“This meeting is built upon the foundation of recent high-level exchanges between the Philippines and Japan under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, to sustain the momentum of our two countries’ strengthened strategic partnership,” she said.

Both officials also reviewed the partnership’s progress in security and defense, maritime cooperation, and economic security, and discussed ongoing and future initiatives to enhance the bilateral relationship further.
