Spate of storms affect 1.2 million Filipinos

The combined effects of recent tropical cyclones Mirasol, Nando, and Opong have now left at least 14 people dead, 17 injured, and two missing across the Philippines with more than 1.2 million Filipinos struggling to recover, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Latest report from the NDRRMC revealed that 1,212,712 individuals or equivalent to 303,537 families in 2,472 villages across the country are reeling from the storms’ impact.

Of these, 7,391 families (22,602 persons) remain inside 389 evacuation centers, while another 8,706 families (27,726 persons) are being aided outside shelters.

The communities are found in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila Central Luzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The NDRRMC also reported that 3,831 houses were damaged, mostly in Cagayan Valley where nearly 2,700 homes were destroyed. Infrastructure damage was estimated at ₱794.81 million, largely concentrated in the Ilocos Region, which accounted for over ₱773 million of the total.
