The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on early Friday morning recorded a magnitude 5.5 offshore earthquake in the waters off La Union at around 3:52 a.m.
Its epicenter was located 52 kilometers northwest of the coastal municipality of Luna in La Union.

No damage is expected from the earthquake, but aftershocks were registered in its aftermath.
According to the state seismology bureau, Intensity V (strong) was felt in Luna and Bacnotan in the same province.
Intensity IV (moderately strong) was also felt in Balaoan, La Union; across Benguet; Baguio; Tadian and Sagada, Mountain Province; and Villasis, Pangasinan.
