The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday recorded a minor phreatic eruption at Taal Volcano.
The eruption took place from 4:33 p.m. until 4:35 p.m., as recorded by the state seismology bureau’s Main Crater Thermal and IP Camera.

The event generated white plumes measuring 300 meters above the volcano’s crater.
Meanwhile, Alert Level 1 (low level of volcanic unrest) prevails over Taal Volcano.
According to Phivolcs, phreatic eruptions are “steam-driven explosions” that take place when magma, lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic deposits heat the water beneath the ground or on the surface.
