Speaker gains wider support in South—solon

AN INCREASING number of people in Mindanao supports the House of Representatives and its principal leader, Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, according to House Deputy Majority Leader and Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong.

Adiong said wider support for Speaker Romualdez and the chamber he leads was reflected in the recent 2025 second-quarter survey of independent pollster OCTA Research.

He said the survey showed that Speaker Romualdez improved his trust level nationwide by three percentage points to 57 percent, while his performance rating increased by four points to 59 percent.

He added that he noticed a similar upward trend in Mindanao, which was acknowledged at the bailiwick of the Dutertes.

Adiong noted, based on the OCTA survey results, that Speaker Romualdez’s trust rating in Mindanao inched up by one point, from 35 percent in the first quarter to 36 percent in the second quarter; while the House leader’s performance mark showed a three-point jump to 43 percent over the same period.

“The numbers don’t lie. This means that more of our people in Mindanao appreciate what the House and Speaker Romuladez are doing to improve the lives of the people and sustain development in our beloved island,” Adiong said.

He also said Romualdez’s trust and performance numbers improved not only in Mindanao but across all regions and socioeconomic classes despite the decision of the larger chamber of Congress to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte last February 5.

“The improved numbers mean that our people in Mindanao are not taking that decision against us. They realize that it is our duty to make public officials accountable for the misuse of government funds and other acts of wrongdoing,” he said.

Adiong also noted that the trust level of President Marcos in Mindanao increased by two points, from 38 percent in the first quarter to 40 percent in the second quarter; while his performance rating increased by a point to 43 percent.

On a nationwide scale, the President improved his trust level by four percentage points to 64 percent and his performance mark by three points to 62 percent.
