In his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing peace and national security—key pillars of his “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines) vision.
He pointed to notable progress in areas such as modernization, reintegration, and law enforcement.
The President underscored that lasting peace is a vital prerequisite for national development and sustained progress.
“Peace serves as an essential foundation of the New Philippines; that’s why we work this out alongside our development,” he said in Filipino.
The President highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize both the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
He noted the continued acquisition of new weapons, combat vehicles, and equipment aimed at strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and ensuring a more agile and responsive security presence throughout the archipelago.
“Patuloy tayo sa pagpapatibay ng ating kapulisan at sandatahang lakas,” he said.
Further, Mr. Marcos also reported the progress in the government’s efforts in reintegrating former rebels into society.
“Thousands who once fought against the government have returned to civilian life, and we are supporting them and their families,” he said.
With support from the private sector, the President said the government is constructing vital infrastructure—including roads, irrigation systems, and livelihood programs—in communities affected by conflict.
In addition to economic support, he noted that the administration has established health stations, classrooms, water systems, and street lighting, directly improving the lives of over 13 million Filipinos in previously conflict-affected areas.
Significantly, the President declared that there are now no remaining active guerrilla groups in the country.
“Titiyakin ng pamahalaan na wala nang mabubuo muli,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Marcos praised the unity among the AFP, PNP, and former rebels in maintaining peace and order, especially in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“Magkakasangga na ngayon ang AFP, PNP, at mga dating rebelde sa pagpapanatili ng kaayusan at kapayapaan sa BARMM,” the chief executive noted.
“Kaya naman, ang lipunan natin ngayon ay mas mapayapa. Mas mapangalaga rin sa karapatang-pantao, anuman ang edad, kasarian, kundisyon, o pangkat,” he said.
