The Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed that the Ormoc cops arrested in connection with the assassination attempt on Albuera mayoralty candidate and self-confessed drug lord Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa all tested negative in the paraffin test.

In a press briefing held at Camp Crame on Tuesday, Col. Randulf Tuaño, acting chief of the Public Information Office of the PNP, also said that the seven policemen will continue to be investigated, as there are ways to test negative for paraffin.

Testing methods include washing hands with chemicals or wearing gloves when firing a gun.

He also revealed that the case has developed further with the discovery of 10 firearms being carried by the Ormoc cops—nine of which were undocumented, and one had a tampered serial number.

The arrested cops were found at a local residence in a dead-end area, where the owner of the house allegedly had connections to a known congressman in Leyte.

“According to the Regional Director, BGen. Cumigad, the residential compound was owned by a friend of a well-known congressman,” Tuaño said.

Tuaño also said the cops were arrested in a residential area four hours after the incident occurred, and according to the Regional Director in Leyte, the police officers were just resting in the area.

“According to BGen. Cumigad, the policemen were just resting,” Tuaño said.
