The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has uncovered a scheme involving employees in the agency’s payroll division.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes reported that these unscrupulous personnel manipulated the computerized payroll system to unlawfully deduct small amounts from the salaries of targeted employees and diverted those funds to their own accounts.
Upon discovering the scheme, Artes promptly filed a complaint.
MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana took immediate action to initiate the arrest of those involved, and inquest proceedings were conducted against the perpetrators.
Further investigations revealed a conspiracy involving additional employees.
“Formal complaints against these individuals are being prepared, and we are building a strong case for filing non-bailable charges against the perpetrators. They have been placed under preventive suspension, and their work computers have been secured,” said Artes.
In the meantime, an internal audit and investigation are underway, and safety measures have been implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Rest assured that the MMDA will thoroughly investigate this matter and ensure that all responsible parties are prosecuted and punished accordingly,” Artes assured.
