Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. on Saturday said there’s no reason to doubt the professionalism of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“It has never been unsolid, and I have no reason to doubt that they will remain professional and follow their duty according to the Constitution, with supremacy remaining,” Teodoro told reporters at the sidelines of the Philippine Army anniversary ceremonies in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.
Earlier this week, Teodoro told a Senate panel that the AFP had no role in Duterte’s arrest as the institution has “no law enforcement mandate.”
Philippine Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala also said that military troops remained in high morale despite the controversy generated by the arrest and surrender of fomer President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court. (ICC).
“We are a professional organization. We are focused on fulfilling our mandate,” he said.
