The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the San Juan City government have agreed to carry out a neighborhood upgrading project along the San Juan River easement.

This joint project includes the development of a linear park that incorporates nature-based solutions. Notable features are rain gardens, rainwater cisterns, and filtration systems designed to collect rainwater.

In addition to the linear park, the MMDA has proposed the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant and mechanized trash traps as part of the neighborhood project, complementing the park’s development.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the creation of a linear park utilizing nature-based solutions exemplifies their commitment to addressing flooding and enhancing sustainability.

“Nature-based solutions represent a paradigm shift in urban planning and development, allowing us to work in harmony with nature rather than against it,” he explained.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora expressed gratitude to the MMDA for this project aimed at enhancing and cleaning up spaces in San Juan.

“We are excited to undertake another beautification project with the MMDA, especially one that will significantly improve the appearance of our linear park in Barangay Batis. Our aim is to create more open spaces for the residents of San Juan,” said Zamora.

These initiatives demonstrate the steadfast commitment of the MMDA and the City of San Juan to embrace innovative and sustainable solutions that tackle the challenges of urban living.
