Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who is serving as one of President Rodrigo Duterte’s legal counsels at the International Criminal Court (ICC), was rushed to an ambulance from Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands on Tuesday.

Reports indicate that around 9:00 AM (4:00 PM in Manila), Medialdea was seen being taken to an ambulance, accompanied by Senator Robin Padilla, who is acting as his guardian.

As of this posting, there is no confirmation regarding the reason for the medical emergency or whether Medialdea will be transferred to a hospital.

ICC Spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah said they have no information on the matter.

“I have no information, but in general, we do not comment on private life matters,” Abdallah told reporters.

Medialdea is part of the legal team representing former President Duterte, who is facing crimes against humanity charges at the ICC in connection with his administration’s war on drugs.

Duterte’s legal defense team also includes British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman and former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who recently announced his intention to file for asylum in the Netherlands.
