Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, who is serving as one of President Rodrigo Duterte’s legal counsels at the International Criminal Court (ICC), was rushed to a hospital from Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, Netherlands on Tuesday.

According to a Facebook post of Senator Robin Padilla, the 73-year old Medialdea fell ill while registering at the prison’s reception center.

Padilla, who accompanied Medialdea in the ambulance and is acting as his guardian, also asked for prayers for him.

“An Embassy official, who accompanied him (Medialdea) to the Detention Center, immediately called for medical attention, which was provided by a Detention Center medic,” according to the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands.

The Embassy noted in its update that a “close relative” of Medialdea was also by his side.

“After having received treatment at the hospital emergency room, Atty. Medialdea was brought to and is now in a regular hospital room,” it added.

ICC Spokesperson Fadi El Abdallah said they have no information on the matter.

“I have no information, but in general, we do not comment on private life matters,” Abdallah told reporters.

Apart from Medialdea, Duterte’s legal team also includes British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman and former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, who recently announced his intention to file for asylum in the Netherlands.
