At least three regional offices of the Philippine National Police (PNP) declared that law and order in their respective jurisdictions remain stable amid threats of political and social unrest following the arrest and subsequent detention of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Thursday dismissed online rumors about an alleged emergency situation in Metro Manila, assuring the public that there is no credible security threat.

In a statement, the NCRPO debunked a social media post, which claimed that an unidentified individual had advised residents to prepare for a possible emergency in the capital.

“There is no credible information monitored by our intelligence units that would suggest any form of threat in Metro Manila,” the NCRPO said, adding that an in-depth validation by various intelligence units confirmed the absence of any cause for alarm.

Authorities are now investigating the identity and whereabouts of the person in the viral video spreading the false claim. The NCRPO urged the public to remain calm and discerning when consuming information online.

It also encouraged everyone to immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station for appropriate action.

Meanwhile, in Bicol, police also assured the public of a stable security situation despite initial heightened alerts following the arrest of Duterte on Tuesday, March 11. The PNP-Bicol announced it has downgraded its alert status based on their latest evaluation.

“Recent assessments indicate that the situation has significantly de-escalated with peace and order now deemed stable,” according to PNP-Bicol Director Brigadier Gen. Andre Dizon. He noted, however, that his unit shall remain vigilant.

Dizon added that police units will continue stringent security measures, including anti-criminality operations, intelligence-driven interventions, and proactive law enforcement initiatives while respecting human rights and due process.

On Tuesday, the PNP-Western Visayas confirmed it was also exercising heightened alert for its units across the region, but assured residents there is no cause for alarm.

“We have to maintain prevailing peace and order because we do not know if certain groups might take advantage of the situation to blame the government or push their own agenda. That is what we are trying to prevent,” said regional director Brigadier Gen. Jack Wanky.

Wanky noted that authorities are closely monitoring potential destabilization efforts while ensuring security measures are in place. He also emphasized that while public demonstrations are allowed, protesters must follow legal procedures, including securing permits.

Law enforcement personnel remain on standby to respond to any security threats amid ongoing political developments.
