Speaker Martin Romualdez on Friday led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P388-million Estancia-Manlot-Calagna-an-Sicogon submarine cable power interconnection project at the Ayala Estate, San Fernando in Sicogon Island, Iloilo.
He connected the construction of this project to the objective of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make economic progress inclusive for all Filipinos.
“No one should be left behind in development. Development is for everyone; not just for the cities, but also for our islands and remote areas,” Romualdez said in Tagalog, echoing the President’s marching orders to government officials.
“And our mission does not end here. Our fight continues for a brighter, more prosperous, and more equitable future for every Filipino,” the Speaker added.
Romualdez pointed out that the project does not entail simply laying a submarine power cable to improve electricity services in Iloilo. “We are building a brighter, more prosperous, and more prosperous future for all of you,” he said.
Iloilo officials led by Reps. Raul ‘Boboy’ Tupas, Jam Baronda and Ayala executives headed by Fernando Zobel de Ayala also attended the ceremony. Romualdez thanked the local government officials, the Iloilo III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO-3) for making the project a reality.
The project would connect the islands of Manlot, Calagnaan, and Sicogon to the main electricity grid, which will provide 24/7 power supply to nine villages across these islands, benefitting an estimated 13,000 households.
