The Philippine Army announced Friday the creation of a new advisory council to support its shift towards external security operations and its ongoing modernization efforts.
In a statement, Army Spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the newly formed Strategic Advisory Council (SAC) held its inaugural meeting on Thursday, February 27, at the Philippine Army Officers’ Clubhouse in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Army Chief Lieutenant Gen. Roy Galido led the meeting with key stakeholders. He outlined the council’s objectives and direction, focusing on key reforms essential to achieving organizational and operational efficiency, according to Dema-ala.
The Army at present has been implementing significant enhancements in terms of logistics management, education and training, human resource development, and healthcare services.
Dema-ala said the newly formed SAC allows members to focus more effectively on their advisory roles while promoting greater involvement from stakeholders.
The SAC replaces the Multi-Sectoral Advisory Board (MSAB), established in 2011, which played a pivotal role in the Army’s pursuit of meaningful transformation.
“Lt. Gen. Galido expressed confidence that the expertise and the strategic advice that will be provided by the council members will further enhance the Army’s capability to address emerging threats amid the fast-changing security landscape,” Dema-ala said.
