The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday said it will go after erring police personnel who will be proven to have committed human rights abuses and other irregularities.
The NCRPO gave the statement in the wake of a recent incident in Taguig City, which has gone viral on social media.
“We reiterate: NCRPO does not and will not tolerate any misconduct or abuse of power by any member of the police force,” NCRPO Regional Director B/Gen. Anthony Aberin said in a statement.
This was after an incident occurred in Purok 2 Barangay Napindan, Taguig City, where operatives from the Taguig City Police Station-Substation 9 went to a residential unit and showed a paper which was reportedly an arrest warrant for an individual.
The video also showed the mother of a male individual who was taken by the cops into a mobile patrol car. The mother was seen being dragged by the vehicle along the road until she let go to avoid sustaining further injuries.
According to an official of Barangay Napindan, authorities are now investigating the incident.
Taguig City Police Station Public Information Officer, Police Captain Jowel Golimlim said that they are finalizing their investigation on the matter and will give an update on the progress and the result of their probe.
Aberin said that the NCRPO is conducting a comprehensive but swift investigation to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the case.
Furthermore, the NCRPO chief also said that their investigation will also identify police personnel who abused their authority police procedures violated and to institute more effective measures to avoid these incidents in the future
“Those who abused their authority and committed violations of the
Police Operational Procedures will be dismissed from the service,
demoted or suspended, depending on the result of the investigation,
strictly observing due process of law for all parties involved,”
Aberin said.
The NCRPO also said that criminal cases against the perpetrators of
the said incident will also be filed based on availability in
coordination with private complainants which in this case, the victims
who were shown in the viral video.
In the meantime, involved personnel, including the immediate
supervisor were relieved from their post to pave the way to an
impartial investigation.
Furthermore, the firearms of the personnel involved in the operations
were also deposited to their unit assignments.
“There is no room for abuse in NCRPO and we will ensure that justice
will be served,” Aberin said.
“NCRPO assures the public of our strong and uncompromising adherence
to the rule of law, transparency and professionalism.”
