Philippines, Cambodia boost ties in trade, agri, education

The Philippines and Cambodia signed eight agreements to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, education, and cultural preservation following a bilateral meeting between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of the agreements inside Malacañang during the Cambodian Prime Minister’s state visit in Manila.

Key agreements include the Elimination of Double Taxation, signed by Finance Secretary Ralph Recto and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, and an MOU on ICT and Digital Transformation, signed by Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy and Cambodian officials.

“I also note that our two sides have signified their intention to exchange information on strategies and practices in investment promotion and in attracting investments,” Mr. Marcos said.

Other deals cover agriculture and agribusiness cooperation, competition law implementation, technical vocational education and training (TVET), and a tourism implementation program for 2025 to 2028.

Additionally, the countries agreed on cultural property protection and investment promotion, reflecting their commitment to strengthening economic and diplomatic ties.

The President also highlighted renewed commitments between the two nations in defense cooperation and the prevention of looting and illicit trafficking of cultural properties.
