The Department of National Defense (DND) called on future security leaders to elevate their strategic thinking as the government shifts its focus to external defense.
DND Undersecretary Irineo Espino underscored this message during a recent briefing at the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), addressing members of the Master in National Security Administration (MNSA) Regular Class 60.
Espino emphasized the need to adapt to evolving security challenges by fostering innovation and a forward-thinking approach.
The MNSA students, comprising 65 participants from various sectors, received insights on the DND’s strategic objectives, operational advancements, and international defense engagements.
The class included officers from the Philippine Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as representatives from government agencies, private institutions, and foreign military organizations.
DND Undersecretary for Strategic Assessment and Planning Ignacio Madriaga highlighted the importance of integrating local and global perspectives in addressing security issues.
He encouraged participants to adopt a proactive mindset, essential for navigating the complexities of future challenges.
“This is in line with our efforts to institute a strategic mindset at all levels of the organization, especially now that we are transitioning to external defense,” Madriaga said.
Espino also relayed the directives of Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., which stress the importance of continuous evaluation of strategies and operational advancements.
“On many occasions, the Secretary has stressed the significance of refining operational procedures and advancing technologies and reviewing key strategic plans. It aims to produce efficiency, effectiveness, and adaptability,” he said.
The MNSA program of NDCP, known for fostering innovative thinking among its participants, plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of leaders to address both national and global security challenges.
