Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr. acknowledged the strategic advantage that the Metro Manila Subway (MMS) project will offer for both the military and civilians once it becomes operational.
Speaking at the launch of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the subway’s Camp Aguinaldo station on January 16, Brawner highlighted the project’s transformative impact on travel and national security.
“Our soldiers, our civilian staff and their families will have increased access to reliable transit, allowing us to respond with greater speed and efficiency during emergencies,” he said.
The MMS, designed with 17 stations including Camp Aguinaldo, aims to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.
“This project is a bold statement to future generations. It tells them that we are not just addressing the present needs and challenges, but we are also laying firm foundations of a connected and sustainable future,” Brawner said.
The TBM launched at Camp Aguinaldo is one of four set to operate under Contract Project 103, which spans 6.516 kilometers and includes the construction of the Anonas and Camp Aguinaldo underground stations and tunnels. This is the fifth TBM launched for the entire subway project.
Construction for the MMS began in 2019. It is expected to revolutionize public transit by 2029 under the management of the Department of Transportation.
