FILIPINO tennis star Alex Eala has gone further up in the world rankings.
For third time since last week, the 19-year-old Eala climbed higher in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking and as of Tuesday afternoon was at a career-best no. 133.
Eala was at 136th as of Monday, two places better than her previous career high of 138.
She was at 143rd back in July, 2024.
Movements in Eala’s rankings were recorded following her early exit at the Australian Open qualifiers
It came a week after her semifinal appearance at the Work Day Canberra International meet.
“Step by step… always appreciate a new career high,” said Eala on Instagram.
This week, Eala bowed to the Croatia’s Jana Fett, 5-7, 2-5, in the first qualifying round of the 2025 Australia Open.
But Eala did not go home empty-handed as she picked up $21,989 for her effort.
Eala got a paycheck of $9,995 when she lost to China’s Wei Sijia, 5-7, 2-6, in their showdown for a finals’ berth in the Work Day Canberra International netfest.
