President Marcos continued to enjoy high trust and approval ratings from the majority of Filipinos while Vice President Sara Duterte’s support dipped 10 percentage points—the highest decline among the top four elected officials—OCTA Research’s latest non-commissioned “Tugon ng Masa” survey showed.
Released on Tuesday, the fourth quarter 2024 TNM Survey indicated that 65 percent of adult Filipinos trust Marcos, while Duterte’s trust rating trailed behind at 49 percent.
Mr. Marcos obtained a trust rating of 65 percent, a modest decrease of 4 percent from 69 percent recorded in the 3rd quarter survey last year.
Similarly, a majority of adult Filipinos, or 64 percent said they were satisfied with the performance of the President.
As for Duterte, her trust ratings fell from the 59 percent recorded in the third quarter of 2024.
“It must be noted that this is the fourth consecutive quarter that Duterte experienced a decline in her trust ratings, continuing the slide since the 3rd quarter TNM survey conducted last August 2024,” OCTA said in its report.
“This marks the first time both the trust and performance ratings of the VP have fallen below the majority threshold. Notably, these figures represent the lowest ratings for the Vice President recorded since December 2023 and reflect a continuing downward trend,” the research firm added.
Meanwhile, Senate President Francis Escudero obtained a trust rating of 63 percent, while House Speaker Martin Romualdez obtained 58 percent — nine percentage points higher than the Vice President.
Romualdez maintained his majority-level trust and performance ratings, demonstrating public confidence in his leadership of the House of Representatives.
The research firm noted that his 58 percent trust rating reflects a modest 3-point decline from the previous quarter, while his 59 percent satisfaction rating withstood a similar 3-point dip.
“These ratings underscore Romualdez’s steady support among Filipinos, particularly in advancing legislative measures aimed at economic recovery and social welfare,” the pollster said.
The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews of 1,200 respondents from November 10 to 16 last year.
Over the weekend, Duterte said she is “seriously considering” running for President in the 2028 national elections during her private trip to Japan over the weekend.
