Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa signed Administrative Order No. 2024-0017, which removes the need for seniors to present a purchase booklet along with a valid identification card and a doctor’s prescription to access these discounts.

Pimentel described the DOH’s action as a welcome Christmas gift for the over 9.2 million senior citizens in the Philippines.

He emphasized the critical need for affordable healthcare access for seniors, who often face increased health vulnerabilities.

“Previously, it was quite challenging for them to apply for discounts, as they were required to present extensive documentation. Now, the process has become significantly easier for them to access the medications they need,” he explained.

“I hope that we will continue to see further improvements that benefit our senior citizens,” stated the veteran senator from Mindanao.

Sen. Pimentel also urged all Filipinos to support the DOH’s initiative to ensure that senior citizens receive essential healthcare services.

Additionally, he called on local government units to streamline the distribution of Christmas gifts to vulnerable seniors, acknowledging their special needs during the holiday season.
