The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) successfully completed the Airport Wildlife Management Course at the Civil Aviation Training Center, demonstrating its commitment to wildlife protection and environmental sustainability.
The three-day course aimed to integrate environmental stewardship into aviation safety initiatives.
CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo emphasized the significance of addressing wildlife hazards and bird strikes within the aviation industry.
“Through courses like this, we expand our knowledge to achieve more efficient operations, safer air traffic management, and enhanced protection of biodiversity,” he said.
The course was facilitated by Mastermark’s wildlife management specialists, who provided comprehensive guidance on mitigating wildlife hazards in aviation.
Aviation authorities have indicated that bird strikes continue to pose a significant threat to daily flight operations in the Philippines. Data from the Air Carriers Association of the Philippines (ACAP) revealed a notable increase in bird strike occurrences.
A bird strike occurs when birds, bats, or any flying animals collide with an aircraft, impacting areas such as the nose, windshield, leading edges like wings and tails, or are ingested by the engines.
