ARTHALAND Launches “Drink Sustainably” Campaign to Promote Circularity in the Workplace

ARTHALAND continues to lead the way in sustainability by expanding its efforts beyond buildings and fostering eco-friendly practices in the workplace.

Manila, Philippines / December 4, 2024. ARTHALAND, the Philippines’ leading green developer, furthers its mission of building sustainable legacies with the launch of the “Drink Sustainably” campaign. This initiative, designed to eliminate beverage-related disposables in the workplace, emphasizes the importance of managing waste at the source and driving circular practices within corporate settings.

“Managing waste at the source is key to achieving true circularity,” says Ar. Kristina Samantha S. Pobre, Head of Sustainability at ARTHALAND. “The Drink Sustainably campaign exemplifies how small, purposeful actions can lead to meaningful, scalable change in how we consume resources.”

The company took a bold step by implementing a policy banning disposable cups in the office. Beginning with an awareness campaign, ARTHALAND distributed reusable tumblers to employees, enabling them to adopt sustainable habits. In just 12 months, the company successfully eliminated approximately 15,000 disposable cups, reducing its waste by 96%. This policy eliminated disposable cups entirely and encouraged employees to adopt reusable habits in their daily routines.

In a bid to extend the campaign’s reach, ARTHALAND invited its tenants at the Arthaland Century Pacific Tower (ACPT) to join in eliminating beverage-related disposables from their offices by 2025. Leading tenants such as Amazon Web Services Philippines, Apartment 1B, AsiaNow, BDO Unibank (BDO), BHP Shared Services Philippines (BHP), COGL ACPT Inc. (Compass Offices), DCPDC, Inc. (Deloitte), Emerald Wireless Tech, Go-To Outsourcing, Hogarth Worldwide, ING Bank Philippines, KMC Savills, KMC Solutions, Korn Ferry, SIB Fortune Corporation, and Supreme Vietnamese Coffee (Highlands Coffee), have embraced the initiative, implementing their sustainability policies and reducing waste within their operations.

“By replacing our coffee packaging with plant-based alternatives, introducing glassware dine-in cups, and offering incentives for customers who bring their reusable tumblers, we are making sustainable choices more accessible and encouraging everyone to adopt greener habits,” says Ms. Jenelle Palma, Chief Finance Officer of Supreme Vietnamese Coffee. “Our efforts extend beyond the office and into how we engage with our customers across the Philippines.”

The campaign’s success was celebrated in the “Beyond the Cup” event on November 29, 2024, at the Eluria Show Suite of ACPT, where ARTHALAND recognized the top tenants who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to waste reduction. Deloitte and BHP were honored for their outstanding contributions, with Deloitte producing just 0.213 cups per square meter and BHP even less at 0.202 cups per square meter—45% lower than the building’s average.

“At Korn Ferry, sustainability is integral to our daily operations,” says Ms. Queenie Yeung, Country Head of Korn Ferry. “New hires receive reusable mugs during onboarding, and we provide free-flowing coffee and water to reduce reliance on disposables. We also foster creativity among employees in waste reduction initiatives, such as recycling paper into bookmarks for our Book Donation Drive, supporting children in underserved communities.”

Through the “Drink Sustainably” campaign, ARTHALAND proves that behavioral change is the cornerstone of meaningful environmental progress. By prioritizing prevention over waste management and uniting its tenants under a shared vision, the company sets a new standard for sustainability in the business world. ARTHALAND invites businesses, organizations, and individuals to take action and join the ‘Drink Sustainably’ movement. By embracing simple yet effective changes, we can collectively drive meaningful environmental progress and create a more sustainable future for all.
