The Department of Health (DOH) reported that the dengue case rate this year is 81 percent higher compared to the cases recorded in 2023.
According to the DOH, there have been 340,860 cases of dengue from January 1, 2024, to November 16, 2024. This figure is significantly higher than the 188,574 cases recorded on the same date last year.
The health agency reminded the public to clean areas where mosquitoes may nest and breed, such as places with accumulated water.
It also advised the public to seek medical consultation if symptoms of dengue arise, especially in areas affected by recent typhoons.
Despite the higher case rate, data from November 16, 2024, indicates that reported cases are starting to decline, with 17,033 cases recorded from October 20 to November 2, 2024.
This represents a 17 percent decrease from the 20,498 cases recorded from October 6 to October 19, 2024.
“In the past six weeks, no increase in new dengue cases has been reported in the regions. However, data collection continues, and additional cases are expected in the coming weeks. Data related to the effects of the typhoon, which may not have been recorded yet, is also being reviewed,” stated the DOH.
Currently, there are 881 recorded case fatalities (CFR) or a rate of 0.26 percent, which is lower than the 0.34 percent reported in 2023.
The DOH noted that this lower CFR is attributed to early screening, testing, and proper medication.
“Find and drain the water collected from previous storms. Cover the skin with proper clothing and use insect repellent. Consult the nearest clinic or health center if symptoms of dengue are present. All LGUs, barangays, and families should be active in keeping our communities safe from dengue,” advised Health Secretary Dr. Teodoro Herbosa.
