The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) hosted a send-off ceremony for four former Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) who had been imprisoned for decades on accusations linked to the Abu Sayyaf Group.
OPAPRU stated that the event marked these individuals’ reintegration into society and highlighted the government’s focus on promoting peace, reconciliation, and social healing.
A recent Memorandum of Understanding between OPAPRU and BJMP underpins this initiative, aiming to support PDLs in rebuilding their lives and reuniting with their families.
The ceremony included financial and logistical assistance, such as cash aid and plane tickets for family members.
Government officials, including Presidential Adviser Carlito G. Galvez, Jr., pledged continued support for the reintegration process and emphasized the importance of peace and healing for all involved.
The PDLs expressed gratitude for the support and pledged to contribute to peace-building efforts as they begin anew.
