The Department of Health (DOH) prepared generator sets and power stations at DOH hospitals in the National Capital Region (NCR) to ensure that medical operations remain unaffected in the event of power outages caused by Super Typhoon Pepito.
The DOH Metro Manila Center for Health Development (CHD) also allocated ₱600,000 for logistical support addressing medical and public health needs across the region.
According to the DOH, these funds have been utilized to stockpile essential medicines, including antibiotics, skin ointments, cold and flu medications, treatments for fever and hypertension, and multivitamins.
Additionally, hygiene products, emergency health commodities, and food supplies have been prepared.
The Philippine Emergency Assistance Team (PEMAT) from Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital is ready to be deployed if necessary.
PEMAT is an emergency medical assistance group equipped with a full water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facility, prepared to assist in disaster-stricken areas for outpatient care both locally and abroad.
In addition to hospitals, the DOH Metro Manila CHD has ensured that barangay health centers, rural health units, and alternate command centers are on alert to respond to any impacts from the typhoon.
Disease surveillance will also be conducted in evacuation centers to prevent the spread of illnesses among residents evacuated from flood-prone and landslide-risk areas.
“Government agencies are working hard to evacuate our fellow citizens early from flood and landslide-prone areas. The DOH is ready to assist with the health needs of those who have evacuated, whether they go to healthcare facilities or evacuation centers,” said Health Secretary Ted Herbosa.
