BUS and terminal operators will be dealt with accordingly should they commit any administrative violation and compromise the welfare of their passengers, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday warned.
LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III called on these operators to strictly implement various terminal and public utility vehicle requirements.
Along with Senator Raffy Tulfo, Guadiz inspected select terminals in Metro Manila, and they found numerous violations in the facilities and equipment of their terminals and even bus units, such as fees collected for the use of comfort rooms, no fire extinguishers inside the bus and worn-out tires.
The LTFRB chief told the bus and terminal operators to strictly adhere to various terminal and PUV requirements, such as installing or establishing a global navigation satellite system, closed-circuit television for continuous recording of the past 72 hours of operation, valid fire extinguisher free access and use of sanitary facilities on all terminals, stations, stop over, standard for sanitary facilities and submission of OTS approved security plan.
The operators must not collect fees to access sanitary facilities, and they must designate priority/express lanes and install diaper-changing tables inside the restrooms within the bus terminal.
They must also have walk-through metal detectors and or handheld metal detectors to avoid penalties. Terminal operators allowing colorum vehicles to use their facilities would be penalized, too.
