The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Saturday that it monitored 28 volcanic earthquakes and three ashing events of Kanlaon Volcano from 12 a.m. Friday to 12 a.m. Saturday.
Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island also emitted an average of 4,701 tons of sulfur dioxide on Friday, the state volcanology agency said.
Voluminous plumes rising up to 700 meters tall were emitted by the volcano on Friday. These drifted northwest, Phivolcs said.
The volcano’s edifice remains inflated, it added.
Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano on Saturday.
The volcano may possibly have sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, the agency warned.
Phivolcs again reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer permanent danger zone is prohibited.
Similarly, flying aircraft close to the volcano is prohibited.
Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, erupted on June 3, emitting 5,000-meter tall plumes.
