The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for approving a P25.8 billion fund to acquire 40 Fast Patrol Craft (FPC) units as part of PCG’s modernization program.
The funding was approved during a National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) board meeting on November 5, 2024.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gavan said the new 35-meter patrol boats will play a critical role in enforcing national and international laws within Philippine waters.
“We sincerely thank President Marcos Jr. for his steadfast support of the PCG’s modernization. His leadership is essential to strengthening our defense, enhancing maritime security, and improving our capacity to respond to emergencies at sea,” Gavan said.
According to PCG, the patrol crafts will be used in anti-illegal drugs, anti-piracy, anti-terrorism, and search and rescue operations, as well as in disaster response and relief missions.
Of the 40 patrol boats, 20 will be sourced from France, and 20 will be locally constructed, which is expected to enhance the Philippines’ shipbuilding capabilities through technology transfer. The acquisition also includes a nine-year Integrated Logistics Support program and additional support equipment for designated PCG bases.
