Marcos signs EO approving 20% pay increase for nurses

Entry-level nurses in national government hospitals will see a 20% pay increase over the next four years, said Quezon City Representative Marvin Rillo.

The annual salary hikes will average 4.8%, bringing their monthly pay to P44,148 by January 1, 2027.

Currently, entry-level nurses earn P38,413, which reflects a 4.9% increase from P36,619 in 2023.

These adjustments are a result of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Executive Order No. 64, aimed at updating salaries for civilian government personnel.

Starting January 1, 2025, their salary will rise to P40,208, followed by P42,178 in 2026.

Rillo highlighted these changes ahead of the national observance of Nurses’ Week later this month.

He has also proposed House Bill No. 5276 to raise entry-level nurse salaries to Salary Grade 21 to retain talent in the Philippines.

The country is currently facing a nursing shortage of approximately 127,000 nurses, projected to reach 250,000 by 2030.
