Asked about Robredo’s presence in the arena, Senate President Francis Escudero explained that it was him who invited the former Vice President to attend.

“I invited her (Robredo) to welcome the president in behalf of Bicol,” Escudero said.

The Bicol region is a known bailiwick of Robredo, who is now running for mayor in Naga City, Camarines Sur in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

Robredo won the 2016 vice presidential race against Marcos, who contested the results in the Supreme Court, which upheld Robredo’s victory in 2020.

Mr. Marcos later won against Robredo in the 2022 presidential race.

President Marcos was in Sorsogon City for the inauguration of the Sorsogon Sports Arena as part of the 130th anniversary of the province and the 50th Kasanggayahan Festival celebrations.
