Google has begun rolling out Android 15 for Pixel devices, introducing significant security enhancements.
The majority of Pixel’s Android operating system (OS) updates often set the stage for enhancements that are later adopted by various manufacturers, as seen with previous versions.
“These updates include security features that help keep your sensitive health, financial and personal information protected from theft and fraud. Plus, we’re introducing improvements for large-screen devices that help you get more done, and updates across apps including camera, messaging and passkeys,” Google said in a statement.
Android 15 features the new Theft Detection Lock, which utilizes AI to automatically lock the device if it detects a potential theft.
This technology analyzes various signals to identify suspicious activity, locking the screen to prevent unauthorized access.
Additionally, Offline Device Lock secures the phone if it goes offline for an extended period, thwarting data extraction attempts.
Users can also employ Remote Lock to secure their devices from any location using a verified phone number.
The new operating system further strengthens security by requiring authentication for sensitive settings and locking devices after multiple failed login attempts.
An upcoming feature, Identity Check, will mandate biometric authentication for accessing critical settings.
Moreover, users can now create a Private Space to keep sensitive apps hidden and secure from prying eyes.
The update also includes patches for 29 vulnerabilities affecting Pixel devices, enhancing overall security.
“Your Android devices are always getting better thanks to new features and updates rolling out all the time — not just once a year,” the tech giant affirmed.
Android 15 is now available for devices running Android 10 and above, with a gradual rollout expected to cover most users globally.
