Incoming Cavite governor Athena Tolentino is new leader of the province after the resignation of Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla, who was appointed as new Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Tolentino, is the 26-year-old daughter of Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino, and was the vice governor of Cavite during Remulla’s tenure since 2022.

Both Remulla and the younger Tolentino filed for re-election this week, but plans changed for the former after accepting President Marcos’ offer for him to lead the DILG.
Tolentino took her oath of office as governor in Tagaytay City with her father and other family members. Shernan Jaro was named as her vice governor.
