Calauan, Laguna—Mayor Roseller ‘Osel’ Caratihan officially filed his certificate of candidacy for his second term at the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office here on Wednesday. He went with his wife and allies, expressing his ardent desire to continue serving the people of Calauan.
Caratihan, who is known for his strong stance on promoting progress and development in the town, hopes to implement new projects that will greatly benefit its citizens. In an exclusive interview, he shared plans to construct a new diversion road and a circumferential road to address the growing problem of traffic in Calauan.
“With the influx of new residents and businesses in our town, traffic has become a major concern. That is why, if elected for a second term, I will prioritize the construction of a new diversion road and a circumferential road to ease traffic and improve the overall transportation system in Calauan,” the mayor told The Manila Standard.
His wife and avid supporter, Susan, also expressed her full support for her husband’s re-election bid. “I have seen how dedicated and hardworking my husband is in serving the people of Calauan. I am confident that he will continue to lead our town towards progress and prosperity,” she said.
In addition to his plans for infrastructure development, Caratihan is also implementing projects for the community’s welfare, such as the Senior Citizen’s Program and the Livelihood and Employment Program.
As a sign of respect and compliance to the directive of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Director Gen. Kenneth Lucas and Laguna Provincial Director Col. Mel Unos, Caratihan also turned over his gun for safekeeping to the Calauan Municipal Police Station.
This move is in line with the implementation of the Election Gun Ban, which officially started and will be in effect until the end of the election period on May 12, 2025. The PNP has been very strict in implementing this Comelec policy to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
Caratihan urged his fellow candidates to also comply with the gun ban and prioritize the welfare and safety of the people of Calauan.
“I call on my fellow candidates to follow the law and respect the Election Gun Ban. Let us all work towards a peaceful, fair, and honest election. The safety and welfare of the people of Calauan should be our top priority,” he said.
