Quad Comm lead chair vows justice to Barayuga family

Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, overall chair of the House Quad Committee, assured Wednesday to deliver justice for the family of retired police Gen. Wesley Barayuga by putting the perpetrators behind his murder in prison.

Barbers, who leads the House Dangerous Drugs Committee, also thanked the Barayuga family—led by Wesley’s wife, Sarah—for placing their trust on the panel’s legislative inquiry.

The Quad Comm recently reopened the Barayuga case with new witnesses coming forward who could shed light behind the alleged plot to liquidate him.

“We promise the family of Wesley Barayuga that we will do everything to hold accountable and punish the people behind his murder,” Barbers said.

The Barayuga family assailed the masterminds in Wesley’s murder for even linking him to illegal drugs “to justify” his killing and cover their tracks.

“Over the last four years, the case has been put on hold and our family was given false hopes that they are doing something about it. At this point, it is difficult to trust and put our hopes up,” the family statement read.

“This (Quadcom investigation) gives us comfort even while we know that we are still far from receiving justice.”

Barayuga was a lawyer, member of the Philippine Military Academy “Matikas” Class of 1983, and board secretary of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) at the time of his death.

He was shot four times at close range inside his vehicle by one of two gunmen aboard separate motorbikes on July 30 in the middle of traffic in Mandaluyong City. His driver, who was hit once in the stomach, survived the incident.
