NBI to agents: Ensure agency is free from rogue elements

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday urged its agents and personnel to ensure that the agency is “free from miscreants and rogue elements”.

“The director assures that he extends his full support to the agents and personnel of the NBI who perform their duties satisfactorily. But, he warns those who use the NBI to advance their depraved agenda that he will leave them no quarters,” the agency said.

It added that NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the agency “will not deviate from our commitment to law and justice, regardless if the destructive forces are from within or without.”

Santiago also directed the Internal Affairs Division (IAD) to immediately conduct a meticulous investigation of the incident and ordered the grounding of the STF prohibiting the conduct of any further operation.

He has also caused a total overhaul of the composition of the group in his commitment to the mandate of the STF.

The STF, created in February, was the team that exposed scams such as supposed appointments for sale, impersonators of government officials, and extortionists, among others.

It conducted an operation after receiving a complaint from a private individual about a clinic in Makati City that is operating without any medical license and/or accreditation.

The said operation resulted in the arrest of Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (aka Mei Naa) and her Filipino cohorts, Demi Nhor Abelada Robles and Mary Frinces Linstones Dalaguite.

The NBI meanwhile said that an agent from Special Task Force (STF) allegedly engaged in inappropriate behavior during a raid in a clinic in Makati earlier this month.

The agent who has already resigned from the agency is now facing appropriate criminal charges before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Makati City.

The filing of cases underscores the policy of non-tolerance for any improper and irregular behavior, the NBI said.
